Becketwood founders told their architects: "We do not want a brick box!" The architects responded by creating a distinctive design which places our 210 housing units along angled hallways that evoke the spread branches of huge trees.
Our light-filled solarium and the soaring, wood-beamed ceiling of our meeting place, the Wellington Room, provides an aesthetic quality that makes Becketwood unique. The artistic use of brick and wood offers a warm, inviting environment that complements our park-like setting on the bluffs of the Mississippi.
Members comment on how quiet they find their homes, which is largely due to the steel and concrete construction—increasingly rare among newer buildings.
Create your ideal living space. Working with the refurbishment staff, Members have the freedom to remodel their units to create their own personal living space. The cooperative provides regular allowances toward flooring, paint and appliances and Members can opt to minimally refurbish or remodel extensively. Our helpful and creative refurbishment staff offers vendor coordination and assistance. Environmentally friendly refurbishment is also a consideration.
The units include a variety of shapes and sizes, ranging from 550 to over 1600 square feet. Some have decks or balconies, while others have bay windows, fireplaces or vaulted ceilings. You may view a map of the building here.
